Bon Appétit

What were you doing when you were 22? Louisa Ellis was beating thousands of applicants to take part in MasterChef: The Professionals, going on to compete against 48 chefs from around the country and eventually reaching the final three. Way to make us feel like underachievers, Louisa.  She is hosting a one-off evening at Harvey Nichols as part of Taste of the Mailbox weekend, happening Aug 3 to 5. Read all about it.

Harvey Nichols x Louisa Ellis

Prior to her stint on MasterChef: The Professionals, Louisa worked at the experimental Wilderness restaurant right here in B'ham. Now, her take-over of the brasserie at Harvey Nichols involves a five-course menu called Hadaka, a Japanese word that apparently means 'naked' or ‘bare’. Using unusual flavours such as shiso mayonnaise (made using a Japanese herb), algae and yuzu — this won't be your typical Birmingham dining experience. Tickets cost £75 and will be super limited to just 50 diners over five sittings. Push the budget to £110 if you fancy a Japanese drinks pairing, including that bev of the moment, Sake. Call 0121 616 6028 to book.

Food Tour

If we’re completely honest, being decisive isn’t our strong suit. Add food to the mix, and we’ll be deliberating about a venue and our menu choices for as long as our dining mate will let us. Those nice people at Mailbox have created an event to cure our indecision — a tour of Malmaison, Tom’s Kitchen and Harvey Nichols, sampling the chef’s signature dish from each. How kind! Tickets

Whisky tasting

Penchant for hard liquor? Amy Seton is your woman. Not obligatory, but it’s highly recommended to pretend Siematic is actually your own kitchen and live your best life. Tickets are very limited

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Everyman

You know the film. We don’t need to give you a précis. On Aug 5, the 2005 remake of the Roald Dahl classic is being shown at Everyman. Watch the absurdity play out on screen while you munch on complimentary white chocolate and salted caramel truffles from Tom's Kitchen. Like a much classier version of Augustus Gloop. Tickets
