Notes on... Gaucho

Steak aces Gaucho have launched on Church Street and we talked our way into their first not-breakast-not-lunch: The Electro Brunch. To sum up? Their take on the Bloody Mary, which comes with a decent dollop of chimichurri, is a must try, while the All You Can Eat (and drink) menu — tapas-sized classics with meaty, Argentinean flourishes — sates post-Friday night hunger. The smashed avo with bacon bits was the pick, and the eggs Florentine wasn't far off. But it's perhaps the immaculate interior and chilled out live-DJ that separates this from your standard Brummie brunch. Don't fear that DJ. This is mild-mannered mellow tuneage that'll keep you in your seat for as long as they'll let you. Which is two hours, so about five Bloody Marys if you really concentrate.

Served on Saturdays, 11am to 4pm, £45.
