Last weekend I was lucky enough to be invited to experience the Amala Spa atHyatt Regency Birmingham. I took my sister along as a very willing companion. The spa itself has been recently refurbished and the facilities are lovely and tastefully decorated. There's a decadence and luxury of fluffy white robes and the scent of beauty products that can't quite be beaten. We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff and we were there early in the morning, so it was quiet and peaceful. Jenny and I are avid 'spa-dayers' but I could tell this was going to be a cut above the norm. Estelle, my therapist for the morning, gave me the choice of a selection of candles - all of which smelt amazing. I'm not the most decisive person, so after a bit of deliberation, I finally choose the 'Relax' candle, which contained lavender, geranium and sandalwood essential oils.
When the candle is lit, it turns into a massage oil with a heavenly aroma. The massage is full body and lasts 75 minutes, so it is a real indulgence. I told Estelle about minor back problems I've had since I was a teen, but she assured me it wasn't a deep tissue massage, more a relaxing and nourishing treatment. The massage made any tension melt away and I left feeling like a new person - it is honestly the best massage I've ever had. Estelle promised I would feel warm and like I was wrapped in a cocoon by the end of the treatment, and she was right. I'm sure all the therapists at Amala are equally wonderful, but when (not if) I go back, I'll request Estelle! I've even got the candle used in the treatment to use at home - the oil must go really far because it was used for 75 minutes and there is still about half of it left. I thought that was a really nice touch, I know that as soon as I light the candle it'll take me straight back to that relaxed frame of mind.
A treatment at the spa would make a really good Christmas present, I'd be over the moon if I found out I was having such a treat again, it's something a bit different and shows you've put thought into it - take note partners - find out about all the treatments on offer here.
I was offered the chance to review Amala spa at Hyatt Regency Birmingham FOC, in exchange for an honest review.
